Albany is the capital city of New York State. However, it is dwarfed by the state’s largest city. It’s skyscrapers are no match for New York City’s: its tallest building is only about one-third as tall as New York’s tallest, being just 610 feet high; and even those landmarks at zero-foot level, or if you prefer simply foot level, can’t compare.
Central Park in New York, for example, is more than ten times the size of Washington Park in Albany, which is based on designs by the same guy who designed Central Park. Washington Park’s area is only 81 acres, and even its crime rate is nowhere near Central Park’s.
That’s so unfortunate!
Although to its credit Washington Park was formerly used for gunpowder storage, and even contained a whole graveyard, which certainly raised its body count to a respectable level.
Is that a coincidence–a graveyard and gunpowder storage in the same area? I’m not so sure!
But can you guess which of New York State’s major cities was ranked the best one to live in, in the 2023-24 U.S. News rankings? That’s right, Albany! And guess which city was ranked LAST? You guessed that as well: New York City!
So maybe people SHOULD try the tri-city area after all!
So up with upstate Albany! And down with downstate New York! And apologies to any New Yorkers who might have lost their sense of humour after getting shot on the subway!
