CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA 🇿🇦

The city of Cape Town was originally a so-called refreshment station started by the Dutch in 1652 for ships sailing between Europe and Asia. Those were bad times, because in those days the refreshments obviously did not include chips and chocolates and carbonated drinks, but mainly things like vegetables and relatively clean water.

These days you hear parents telling their children, “Be good and eat your vegetables or you won’t get any refreshments!” But in those days the vegetables WERE the refreshments! Terrible times indeed!

But at least the Dutch did not try to enslave the local population. That would have been impossible. Rather, they IMPORTED slaves from places like East Africa and the Bay of Bengal: which is where I live: so who knows, maybe some of MY relatives were taken there as well.

Today of course Cape Town is a modern economic and political powerhouse: but if anyone there sees an out-of-place person with a hat and dark glasses, let me now. It might be one of my long-lost relatives.

You would recognize him because he would be making offensive jokes, and working like a slave for little or no money.

Then again, that pretty much applies to 99 per cent of all standup comedians. So never mind!
